Before we get into the new modification PPL have now made available, let’s talk about the problem with new cars.
When it comes to noise every car that’s been newly produced from any manufacturer, well most at least, are held back and choked by the worst thing to ever be produced. The OPF.
If you’ll like a full description on what an OPF actually does .. well:
OPF stands for “Otto Particulate Filter,” which is a type of exhaust system component that is designed to reduce the amount of harmful particulate matter emitted by a gasoline engine. In essence, an OPF is a filter that traps tiny particles of soot and other pollutants as they pass through the exhaust system, preventing them from being released into the atmosphere
In short : Captures addtional Soot and acts like another sound suppressing box.
The Majority on the market such as the ones available from Milltek have similar systems, but they follow suite of the OE system and it’s 2 Pipe OPF System.
We at PPL Tuning have developed our own system that removes 5 of the OPFs that extend from the Catalytic converters with one big pipe made out of Stainless Steel.
We have tested the system and as of now, we can confirm that the method by which we bypass the OPF does not affect the performance of the car! – 22 MAR 2023
The OPF delete has several benefits. But the Main ones are as follows :
Sound : Where there is now one wide pipe for the air to flow down, you obtain a much more deeper groan than that compared to the OEM sound. It takes away from the F80 similarities of the raspiness.
Performance : Less Boxes = More Airflow. More Airflow = More Power. With this setup your looking at around an additional, though slight , 10BHP. It will make your G80 have the smallest but notice-able kick!
Though you are losing out of Emission saving boxes (as if anyone wanted that in the first place) – newer models of the G80 will require a patch to bypass the OPF.
NOTE : On extended driving, the pressure build up will flag on the system due to lack of an OPF Sensor. Simply Turn off the car and turn it on and the fault will clear. DO NOT
